__Autism and Travel Insurance
_
Autism awareness
Not long ago i have travelled to Indonesia for work and as a part of my preparation … and because I like to be prepared I wanted to organise Holiday insurance. This is my first overseas trip for work since the kids had been clinically determined to have Autism. They weren’t travelling beside me … however i guess I had it in the back of my mind when I was organising my travel cover.
Autism awareness
I needed thought obtaining the travel cover should be easy enough … I could not believe how wrong I had been. A few things i discovered very quicly that although it might seem there are A huge number of different holiday insurance policies out there .. well really that is not true. Actually there are really over a small number of business that offer travel cover and underwrite for other manufacturers (that more often these days just copy the PDS from your underwritter). And many of them aren’t really fans of people with Autism … at least their polices aren’t
How can creating a child with Autism that isn't travelling impact your skill to get travel insurance?
I know this could are somewhat confusing rather than make many sense … however this is the place it functions. According to every one of the insurance firms I spoke to Autism could be counted being a “Pre-existing Medical Condition”. Pre-existing Health conditions of not only the travelling party, but travelling companions and non-travelling relatives must be considered when getting travel insurance.
Why would that make a difference? Well if you need to cancel your journey and stay repatriated quickly because of something which pertains to a Pre-existing Health conditions that could be very expensive. For this reason you receive holiday insurance. But wait, how can Autism be seen like a potential create a claim on travel insurance. Well when I was conversing with the insurance coverage companies I got different responses to that they would think about the following.
Senario - Your youngster runs out on the road and gets run over by way of a car. They're hurt badly and you also have to return home.
Response - All insurance comapnies declared they'd buy repatriation.
Senario Expanded - Then i asked if the could this modification whether it was known that the child had autism understanding that among the facets of their condition was that they a passion for cars coupled with a general lack of awareness of road safety.
Response - Mixed. Some asserted they might pay, some unsure … several said certainly not.
IMHO travel cover information mill unfairly (and I wonder if illegally) discriminating against individuals with non-travelling relatives with Autism. Many don’t or won’t provide coverage for autism and potentially will twist what to extend unreasonably the effect on autism to pay for well virtually anything. Case wrong.
